3 Tips for a Great Family Vacation

You might think that “winning” a vacation with kids, specifically two under 2.5 years, would have some pretty low standards. Don’t get me wrong, you might not be doing all of the crazy things on your to-do list that you would have before, but you can still have an epic adventure with your family. These tips applied to your family vacation at any age or stage will help you pull off a serious vacation win, I promise. Before we hit the road I did a ton of research and found some great family travel tips on The Scenic Route from Alamo. Here are the three things I tried to keep in mind throughout our travels.

10 things you need for a Road Trip with a Toddler

If I’m being honest, spending 5 hours in the car with two little ones is not ideal under any circumstances. Then when you consider the breaks to nurse, get out the wiggles, and use the bathroom (I have to admit that I am the guilty party here since my toddler isn’t even potty trained) it turns into more like an 8-hour trip. I can’t promise that these things will make it all rainbows and butterflies when traveling with a toddler, in your car, for hours, but I can tell you that these things made our road trip a lot easier and more tolerable.

What I Packed for a Summer Vacation with Little Kids

If you’ve been here before you know that we recently had a family vacation. Five days and four nights of a whole lot of family fun and maybe just a little bit of chaos. I’m serious when I say it was only a little chaotic because we were prepared for just about any scenario while we were away. Luckily we didn’t have to worry about fitting everything onto an airplane, but we did have to endure a treacherous road trip (more on that here). Anyway, big thanks to American Tourister for sponsoring this post so that I can share my packing tips with you guys! Their Z-Lite suitcase was the perfect size for the things I packed for the kiddos.

Just Keep Swimming

It’s no secret that my family lives for playtime in the pool. Daddy grew up surfing and I think his deep rooted love for the water lives on in both of the kids.  Although my summer activity of choice is snoozing in the sun (sun screened of course, duh) I will happily splash around even in the coldest water to bring a smile to my kids’ faces. Needless to say, picking a hotel to stay at usually involves some heavy research into the pool situation. We knew we’d love the JW Marriott Dessert Ridge because there were multiple pools, a splash pad, and a freaking lazy river. That was maybe my favorite part because I got to relax in my innertube while Elouise floated along in the current of the river. She felt like a mermaid and I can confidently say that we spent hours in there. Here are some photos from our pool time, obviously rocking our favorite family swimwear from Kortni Jeane.

If you are ever on the hunt for a family friendly resort, just trust me, and the thousands of photos below, when I say that this place is a family vacation dream. There was an amazing pool area, which I will be dedicating another post to because it was just that good. I also have vacation tips, road trip essential, packing ideas, and more coming your way so stay tuned. To kick it off, here’s a little look at our stay at Desert Ridge!
