If you haven’t heard by now, we are having a little boy! I never knew how different pregnancy could be the second time around. I guess I just assumed my body would kick into gear and remember how to rock the whole growing a baby thing like it did before.
You Name It, I’ve Got It
Last time the only real “unwanted” pregnancy symptom I experienced was heartburn, and its no wonder because my daughter was born with a full head of hair. This time around I’ve been experiencing more than I can count since before I even saw the two little pink lines. Luckily, the end result of a sweet little bundle makes it all worth it.
While we’re on the topic of symptoms, I have to just put it out there that I no longer believe in any of the gender determining symptom checklists. With Elouise, I had one or two girl symptoms but was checking off mostly boy symptoms. The biggest one that threw me for a loop was the fact that I wasn’t experiencing morning sickness. We were convinced that we were having a boy, so when we opened the bag with a little baby girl onesie for our private little gender reveal we were speechless. This time all of my symptoms are typical for girl pregnancies so I thought surely my body must be growing a little baby girl in there. One of the symptoms that is said to be the most reliable, fetal heart rate, was the one that really convinced me. They say anything above 140 indicates girl, and this baby has consistently been 160. In fact, our nurse said “I will be incredibly shocked if you’re not having a girl”. Thanks a lot for adding to the confusion lady.
The Big Reveal
Well, fast-forward to the gender reveal ultrasound at 14 weeks, where we again sat together speechless. Our technician said that she got a great shot of the baby’s “parts” and froze it up on the screen. Well, we didn’t even need her to say the word boy, because it was pretty clear. When she did say, “there’s your little boy” we just gripped each other’s hand tighter. For the next couple of hours after we found out, we used words like he and him and each time we did we couldn’t wipe the smile off of our face. What really made it sink in was buying a little baby boy outfit that night.
It is definitely getting more real that a little boy will be joining our family, and our excitement continues to grow. I can hardly imagine boy things flooding our home when Elouise is all girl, but bring it on. Now I know that next time to all I can expect is that I’m growing a baby and leave the rest of the predicting to the ultrasound tech.
