Believe it or not, my doctor doesn’t count chasing around my crazy active toddler as exercise. Clearly she must not have children. In any case, I have been trying my hardest to stay active with intentional exercise during this pregnancy. You see, when I was pregnant with Elouise I was teaching full time and on my feet most of the day scurrying around a classroom. I never really felt like squeezing in those extra 30 minutes of exercise seemed as pressing. This time around, I’m a stay at home mama and feel like I have no excuse.
My New Bestie
So, pregnancy yoga has become my new best friend. Its low impact and requires no prior training which was exactly what this out of shape girl needed. Then, I read that it can improve sleep and reduce stress, back pain, nausea, and headaches. Um, yes to all of those! Plus, practicing yoga while pregnant helps to prepare your body for childbirth by stretching and strengthening your muscles. I say bring it on, because I plan on doing natural birth again!
I can even do my yoga with a curious toddler attempting to copy my every move, which actually makes it a little cuter in my opinion. This girl loves to be mama’s helper and join in with me no matter what I’m doing. I’ve finally found out that other women weren’t exaggerating when they said they just want five minutes to go to the bathroom by themselves. I know it won’t last forever though. So for now, I’ll buy us matching clothes and soak up the fact that she thinks I’m the coolest.
