Kicking off Summertime with a Staycation

When it comes to Summertime, we don’t mess around in Southern California. Seeing as it feels like summer 80% of the year down here anyway, when its officially time to leave behind the busy schedule and trade it in for extra playtime, we don’t waste any time. With that being said, we decided to do a mini family staycation at Howard Johnson Anaheim because not only does it give us great options for family friendly rooms, but our kids are OBSESSED with the water playground. The first picture is what happens when you don’t like the way the rocks feel under your water shoes so you try to hold onto the wall to get up on your tippy toes. The second picture is what happens when you realize a little too late that the wall is stucco and doesn’t feel so good on baby hands. He had us laughing so hard on our way to the water playground. To be honest, during this trip we spent MORE time at the water playground than we did at Disneyland. Yes, I know our kids get to go to Disneyland often but it really is saying a lot when your child would rather stay and play than go see Mickey and get a churro.

Kids Suites! Hands down this is the best thing ever! Our kiddos are little and go to bed early, so we hate getting stuck whispering in the dark with headphones in after 8pm. TVs in each room that allow you to log into your personal Netflix, Hulu, etc. This was so nice because my kids are really only able to watch limited shows on TV so if we need to keep them entertained for a bit we can put on our tried and true favorites. Plus, Mom and Dad can watch their shows on their own TV!
Keurig coffee makers in the room! Can I get an amen?! Plus, on this last trip I discovered that they sell small portions of premium coffee in the gift shop with special fitments for the Keurig to use your own coffee grounds. I got to make my own Banana Pie flavored premium coffee and it was so freaking good. And I am a self proclaimed coffee snob!
You have a great view of the fireworks and you can watch them from the water playground
You have the option of a regular pool and a mini water park which is great for all ages!
The have a gift shop that is stocked with anything from souvenirs to late night snacks.
