It’s safe to say that as parents, one of our main goals is to keep our kids safe. Whether you identify as a helicopter mom, a free range mom, or a tiger mom, I think we can all agree that we want our children to stay safe. A huge factor of safety in the home is keeping household chemicals out of reach from tiny hands. Now that I have two little ones, laundry safety is something I’ve had to become much more intentional about. That’s why I’m so excited to be working with the American Cleaning Institute to share their PACKETS UP! campaign, which is all about educating parents and caregivers on ways to reduce the number of accidental liquid laundry packet exposures in children.

Accidents can happen in an instant and with children being so naturally curious and carefree, it’s our responsibility to do all that we can to prevent them from happening in the first place. We may not be able to stop them from tripping and stubbing their toe, but thankfully there are so many things we can do to prevent liquid laundry packets from getting into the hands of our children.
Here are some helpful safety tips straight from the American Cleaning Institute:
- Never let children handle liquid laundry packets, they can be harmful if swallowed or get in the eyes
- Store liquid laundry packets properly: up, away, and out of reach of children in their original container with a securely closed lid
- Call the Poison Help line at 1-800-222-1222 if there is an accident
Liquid laundry packets are certainly convenient since they contain pre-measured doses of the exact right amount of detergent for a load. However this also means they are highly concentrated. That is why the American Cleaning Institute has been working hard since 2013 to educate parents on the importance of proper use and storage of these liquid laundry packets.
