Yes, that title says “still” because I posted about this little baby before. To be clear I’m talking about the Owlet not Sullivan, because obviously that little dude has been all over my blog posts lately. Well, the Owlet smart sock is maybe one of the most genius baby items on the market. Anything that can add to the peace of mind for a parent is a must have in my opinion and believe it or not, it just got better. They just released a brand new, updated, more efficient, and even smarter sock.
Sullivan Gray: 5 Months
First of all I’d like to say that it is getting harder and harder to get a non-blurry photo of this little guy. He is on the move at an impressive rate. I can’t believe that next time I am writing one of these I will have a 6 month old, which is basically a 1 year old, which is essentially a toddler. AH! I’m getting ahead of myself. When I look at him though, I do not see a 5 month old, he looks about the same size as most 9 months old, it’s bananas. This month has had a lot of high highs and some pretty low lows, so I’m going to talk a bit more about those because gosh darn it, sometimes you just have a rough month and it’s okay to share about it.
Hippity-Hoppity Easter Shop-pity
Okay, I know a it’s a lame excuse for a rhyme but I couldn’t resist making myself giggle. I am here to talk about last minute Easter shopping. This year we are hosting Easter at our home which means that my mind has been on all things menu and getting the house in order. Then I realized that my children need Easter baskets, and I have a two year old who LOVES holidays and celebrating with every fiber of her being, so I have to bring my A-game. Well, here I am a week away and finally pulling together some pretty top notch baskets, if I do say so myself. Here are some of the actual things I’m giving to my kiddos in their baskets this year. Most of them can be snagged at Target because that’s just how I live my life. I did also include a few things from some of my favorite small ships that were just too good to pass up on, and if you hurry there’s still time for you to order them and have them show up in time for the Big Bunny’s special delivery.
How I’m Getting My Toddler to Potty Train Herself
I know that right about now you’re probably thinking “that’s not possible”, but I assure you that it is. However, it may not be the solution that works for you, your child, or your circumstances. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, the most important thing that my years as an early childhood educator taught me is that every child is different. So, feel free to try exactly what I’m doing, alter some of it, or throw it all out the window. Let’s be honest, no child will be wearing diapers forever, even though it may feel like forever when you are wanting them to be potty trained. I assure you it will happen. I have watched lots of children in their potty training process and it usually goes one of two ways. The first way is that the parent decides its time to potty train based on the age of the child or some other external circumstance. The second way is that the child decides they are ready, whether it be all on their own or by showing signs of readiness and being guided by their parent. I am a firm believer in the second route, it typically means less meltdowns, tears, and accidents. I don’t know about you, but those are the things that I would like to avoid at all costs. We started potty training because Elouise showed signs of readiness, and now she is essentially potty training herself.
Fun at the Farm
You guys, have I mentioned that it is my dream to basically have a tiny farm in my backyard? Yep, its true! Gimme a a few chickens, some rows of veggies, a couple of fruit trees, and I’d be a happy camper. So, its no surprise that I was in heaven when we visited Tanaka Farms this past weekend. We have been before for the adorable pumpkin patch but they offer so much more throughout the year! We hopped on a tractor tour around the farm and sampled freshly picked veggies, and then got to pick our own strawberries. Elouise was in absolute heaven and decided she needed to bend down and eat bites out of as many berries as she could. which then turned into giving them kisses, and finally after many reminders to not put her mouth on them we strolled down the rows giving them positive affirmations. I’m sure seeing toddler touching strawberries and saying “good job growing!” was equal parts strange and adorable. Anyhow, it was a fun day for the books, and E and I got to twin so that made it a zillion times better.
