I loved when this day came around as a teacher. Even with the littlest of kiddos, the conversation of equality, fairness, and allyship is such an important one. Martin Luther King Jr was such an important historical figure for our nation that we set aside a day each January to remember his life and legacy. There is even a memorial statue of him in Washing D.C. All this to say, don’t miss out on the opportunity to talk about this day with your kids! The values and topics discussed in this lesson are ones that we should be teaching our kids regardless of any federal holiday, so use these as a starting point to get the ball rolling!
Backyard Nutcracker Party
Of course our family would have a Nutcracker celebration, Sully has been obsessed for two years now and the obsession is only growing. Now even Teddy and Elouise have grown to love them! I reached out to the ladies from Arla Creations to see if they’d want to work together to create a nutcracker plate. They knocked it out of the park, I couldn’t love them more! I grabbed some snacks, cut out some bread into stars, and picked up some donuts. It was either the most high maintenance play date or the most relaxed party I’ve ever thrown. Either way, the kids had a blast!
2020 Holiday Bucket-List
We like to go big for holidays in our house. I’ve struggled before with holiday burnout though, I try to go way too big (without enough planning) and then end up just wanting to go home (and crawl into bed). This year I made a plan! I planned a few really over the top fun days and then I sprinkled the rest with really easy and manageable fun like crafts, whipping up a treat, or watching a Christmas movie. I tried to keep them all on the generic side so that you can easily translate them to whatever works best for your family. I’ve shares some tips and instructions on some of the items below! Happy December, friends!
2020 Holiday Decor Picks
I collect a few pieces of decor each year and have slowly been building my collection. Anyone else love the day after Christmas shopping better than Black Friday? Finding the pieces I’ve had my eye on for 50% off give me a rush. Then the next year when I unpack I get to rediscover all of the treasures! Anyway, there are always a few things that I love so much that I can’t risk waiting to see if they’ll still have it the day after. These lists are items I’ve gotten in years past, some from this year, and then a few I have my eye on!
Holiday Jammies!
It’s a running joke in our house that I have an obsession with buying holiday pajamas. Lucky for you guys that means I have my eye on the cutest pairs and when they’re on sale. I will try to keep this post updated with my fave finds and any sales I see come around. It’s almost November you guys, which means it’s basically Thanksgiving, which means it’s practically Christmas time. AH!
