October 1st means one things in my book, it’s Halloween time! The last two years I’ve partnered with Primary to create some fun DIY costumes using their awesome basic clothing for kids. The first year for sure had more DIYs (you can find it here) but then last year with a new baby I went as easy as possible with a “no DIY” costume roundup (here’s that one). This year I fell right in the middle, with some quick and simple DIY steps. Plus, this time I have three kiddos big enough to rope into the dressing up, but who am I kidding they pretty much love it as much as I do! All three costumes ideas are meant for 3 kiddos and they are all SO fun. I have a favorite and it for sure wasn’t the one I had thought I would love, keep reading to see which one it is!
The Berenstain Bears
Materials Needed:
+ Raspberry Tights (optional)
+ Pink Fabric Paint
+ Round Sponge Paint Brush
DIY Steps:
- Place some sort of barrier inside of the shirt so the layers don’t stick together from the wet paint
- Load up the sponge with lots of paint and dab straight down on to the shirt
- Create a polka dot pattern all over
- Allow to dry completely before wearing
Alvin and the Chipmunks
Materials Needed:
+ Yellow Felt
+ Hot Glue Gun
+ Scissors
DIY Steps:
- Lightly trace a capital letter A onto your felt (or if you’re a fan of living on the edge like me, just wing it)
- Cut out the letter
- Hot glue to the front of the hoodie (this will “ruin” the sweater so if you don’t want to have it permanently on there you can find another way of adhering it)
*This turned out to be my MOST favorite costume trio by FAR, I mean come on! Even though I switched the color of the boys hoodies by mistake, lol.
The Aristocats
Materials Needed:
+ Long Sleeve Pajama Top (in Tangerine, Slate Gray, and White)
+ Pj Pants (in Tangerine, Slate Gray, and White)
+ 3 Headbands
+ Felt (1 sheet each of grey, orange, white, and pink)
+ Ribbon (deep red, light blue, and light pink)
+ Scissors
+ Hot Glue Gun
DIY Steps:
- Cut out two extra long rectangles from the white, grey, and orange felts
- Fold each rectangle in half and cut into points at the top to make a cat ear shape (the should look the same on each side)
- Now you’re going to fold them around the headband and hot glue it to itself to make the cat ears (see photo above)
- Cut out slightly curved triangles from the pink felt to make the inside of the ears and glue them on
- Cut strips of ribbons to make the collars (the light blue and pink will be tied into bows and the deep red just gets tied into a knot
