Newborn and restful sleep aren’t exactly synonymous. I mean, when (and if) they sleep, they sleep “like a baby”, don’t get me wrong. As a parent, we are doomed to interrupted sleep for at least a month or two and sometimes years after. I knew this after having my first two kiddos, but what I didn’t realize was that the elusive newborn sleep time could also interrupt my day. I’ve partnered with Levana to share about Oma Sense, their baby movement monitoring system and how it’s helped to the way we do nap time around here.

Here’s the thing. when Teddy sleeps he is out hard and can nap for a good chunk of time if the circumstances are right. We’ve been putting him down for naps upstairs since his two big siblings are quite noisy and disruptive. When he decides to nap when the big kids nap that’s when mama gets to have power hustle time. There’s just one problem with him napping upstairs, even with a video monitor, his reflux. He has had reflux on and off since he was born and when it happens while he’s asleep he ends up gagging and gasping for breath. If I just have the video monitor on, I might not even notice it’s happening as it has a power save feature that shuts of the picture on the screen. That’s why I love the Oma Sense because it clips to the stomach area on baby’s clothes and monitors movement from their breathing.
It is built with a special Wake Up technology that will begin to make random vibrations, lights, and and sounds to encourage normal movement in baby again. After 5 seconds, if regular movement hasn’t returned it will set off an alarm to alert the caregiver that there is attention needed. I love that it is so simple and straight forward to use. You simply slide in onto baby’s clothes in one of the designated positions and thats it! There’s no contact to baby’s skin or wireless frequencies (meaning no WiFi is needed). I don’t have to worry about plugs or cords or lugging around all sorts of junk. It even comes with a little carrying case that makes it super portable. I really cannot think of anything negative to say, we really love this product!
