Extreme Makeover: Backyard Edition!

Was anyone else obsessed with Extreme Home Makeover? It for sure gave me unrealistic expectations for what home renovations and updates required. Also, I recently saw a meme of a girl in a decked out basketball themed room with a caption that read “Me after telling Ty Pennington that I played basketball one time at recess” and I literally snort laughed because it is so true. The rooms were so themed and specific to what the kids liked in that moment but too bad when they change their mind about loving all pink everything in 6 months. Anyway, I’m going down a rabbit hole now, but I’m here to share that an extreme makeover in your backyard doesn’t require crews of workers or days of renovations. Sometimes all you need is a little facelift with some awesome furniture to change the whole vibe of the backyard! We worked with Cosco to freshen things up in our backyard and I can’t wait for you to see all of the details!

I wanted to start by saying that this is the first time in 7 years of marriage that we have had a “live-able” outdoor space. The first three places we lived after we got married had tiny little patio spaces because they were apartments and a townhome. We had a tiny little cheap bistro table and chair set but never spent time out there. When we moved into our first rental home, the backyard was not really an ideal place to spend time with tiny babies. Our kids were under 3 and the backyard provided no shade, a grassy area that was mostly dead when we moved in, and a giant dirt embankment. Regardless I was so excited I snagged a little loveseat and chair set for dirt cheap at an end of summer sale that never really got used. By the time we moved to this new house the furniture had been rained on a ton and endured the effects of being exposed to the crazy fire in the mountains that evacuated us for a week. Long story short, it had seen better days. The backyard at this house is perfect for being outside, it has a covered patio and is totally kid friendly. We got the kids pretty much everything fun they could ever want, but we still needed someplace for us to relax or eat when we were out there. That’s where Cosco came in and provided us with the patio furniture of our dreams. It’s the perfect combo of modern and timeless and so comfortable and well made. We snagged a new rug and cleaned up our old one, grabbed lots of in expensive terra-cotta pots and plants and pulled everything together. I’ll link our specific products below, but first just enjoy how lovely everything looks all set up. I feel like a real grown up!

The items we chose were from the Novogratz Poolside Collection. For the dining table went with the Paullete dining set. We love that it can be used both indoors and outdoors, meaning it’s durable enough to withstand the elements but also stylish enough to match our decor. The tabletop is a maintenance free (woo-hoo) synthetic teak wood and the rest is weather resistant steel powder coated in the prettiest deep charcoal gray color. For the lounge area we went with the Teddi conversational set that included the loveseat, two chairs, and coffee table. We love the modern look but it’s also something that I think will still look relevant for years to come, which is great because I’m pretty sure it will last a super long time. The cushions are weather proof and the rest the furniture is made from the same charcoal gray weather resistant steel. Speaking of the cushions, one of the biggest reasons we chose this set was because of the deep seating. We are a tall family, Christian is 6′ 4″ and I’m 6 feet tall so we need a nice deep seat. These do not disappoint! This set also came with rain covers, bonus! To round everything out we got the Roberta side tables. We have put these to use for a few weeks now and I have been SO impressed with how they’re holding up with 3 wild kiddos.
