Looking Good with Pixel Eyewear

I am so thrilled about this partnership with Pixel Eyewear. I have had glasses most of my life and as an adult it’s been such a struggle for me to find cute trendy eyewear that’s not super overpriced. Not only does Pixel have the cutest frames at an affordable price, they also offer blue light protection in all of their glasses. Millennials, rejoice! They even have frames for the kiddos since now screen time is pretty much a guaranteed part of the daily schedule of most kids. Let’s chat more about how we use Pixel in our home.

During quarantine we’ve had to learn a whole new set of routines. Part of our new schedule involved Daddy working from home. As a creative director, a lot of his work was on the computer anyway, but then all of a sudden ALL of his work was. Even the meetings he normally had face to face turned into zoom calls. Plus, working for a church that now had to shift everything to an online platform meant that he was now working more than ever! Christian has a couple of pairs of computer glasses from Pixel and loves them, but during this time he was especially glad to have a pair of their amber glasses with enhanced blue light technology. They are recommended for heavy users, gamers, or anyone who is using screens mostly at nighttime.

I was super happy to see that they had options for the kids too! We don’t do a ton of screen time in our house typically but all regular rules kind of went out the window a few weeks into quarantine when the weather hit the high 90’s. Plus, I know for so many families, distance learning meant that their kids were doing a good amount of school work on screens. I’ve even heard that some schools may incorporate some aspect of distance learning into the schooling for the Fall. We will be homeschooling Elouise for kindergarten and that means that we will be utilizing many amazing online programs to supplement her schooling. Bottom line, kids these days have screen time as a part of their lives whether for learning or fun. Blue light glasses are for sure a worthwhile investment to protect those developing little eyes.

For someone like me, it can be a little tricky to think about blocking blue light when you already need glasses. I would say I wear contacts about 60% of the time so it’s easy to throw on some blue light blocking glasses. But for the other 40% of the time where I wear my glasses I’m still needed to block the blue light. As a blogger, I do most of my work on a screen so it no matter the day I’m going to need that extra protection. Pixel was one of the few places that I could find prescription glasses with the blue light without having to pay an extra fee. They also have reading glasses options as well, but I’m not quite needing those yet.

According to the Vision Council, nearly 70% of Americans experience digital eye strain due to prolonged use of electronic devices. Being exposed to blue light can cause anything from dry eyes to headaches, blurred vision or eye fatigue. In addition to just affecting eye health (which is enough reason to wear the glasses) it can also disrupt your circadian rhythm which can mess with your sleep. Who knew? You can find a bunch more helpful info over at Pixel all about blue light and it’s affects.
